A very sensitive and subtle piece. This would make a beautiful cover for a tall night light/candle holder. You would just need to stitch a back seam to create a tube.  (Decovil 1 iron on interfacing, colourwashed with paper additions.) So, a busy week this week . . . .  Tuesday and Wednesday I was teaching a 2 day workshop at Art Van Go - Reclaimed Papers. It is great fun - you don't have to make anything that looks like anything - it is a great process. Just tearing and layering.  The group all cracking on. I love teaching at Art Van Go www.artvango.co.uk . It's a great space to teach in, plus I get to see Viv, Kevin and the team. This was my last workshop this year - and is was fabulous. The group worked really hard, and Viv and Kevin were on great form. Torn, painted newspapers torn and layered up with painted Bondaweb. This process is featured in my book Reclaimed Textiles - it's called 'Pretties and Background'. Once the pape

A rather delicious 'pretty'.   I apologise for the rather woeful delay in writing this post, I haven't been this behind for ages. What with teaching over the weekend and nid-noi.com being a bit busier I am a wee bit behind with answering emails and all the usual admin.  I am rather fond of the Worthing Embroiderers Guild. Being local to me I have delivered several workshops and lectures over the past few years and many of them turn up from time to time on other workshops. So I was looking forward to spending a sparkly day with them last Thursday. The workshop was 'A new starting point' - my newspaper based one day workshop.     A few of the ladies getting stuck into their 'pretties'. The Guild hold their meetings and workshops in a fabulous room with plenty of power and light, it was a great treat to work in there. The plan was to create some 'pretty' backgrounds to print onto and also create a faux chenille sample using newspaper an

Sue's heart shaped box - decorated newspaper ironed onto heavy pelmet Vilene plus/S133 which was then cut to a box shape by my Big Shot Pro die cutting machine. We had a fabulous three days at Art Van Go www.artvango.co.uk . The previous post shows the decorated papers and book covers that the group made and this one will show you some of the boxes and the faux chenille.  Ruth used a block printed paper for the top layer of her faux chenille and only cut through certain areas of her piece.    Debby layered her newspaper with polyester organza and then gave it a good 'rough up' to help the fibres of the organza come to the surface.   Bea started to work into the channels with stitch.     Mary added little metal charms.   All the boxes were cut using Sissix 12" box template dies and my Big Shot Pro die cutting machine . The product used to make the boxes is Heavy pelmet Vilene plus/S133. This is a very firm iron-on interfacing.
